8-23-08 TRI-County Speedway

Racing Matt  in the #23 Black Chevy is going to always be tough as Matt and the have developed a new LMS car called the LTO by Tom Pistone. Matt and Tom and his Team of outlaws have put together a new car that is easy to work on and simple to set-up for first timers. How good is the car? Well with a 420HP built motor with a 2-barrel 500cfm carb racing against the 450+ Super crates Matt set a new Track Record  with a 16:12 with the 500cfm carb.  This means Matt McCall holds the track record at Hickory and Tri-County Speedways and has won numerous times at both of these tough tracks with the best late model in the country coming here to race. Then Matt and the were and won the race.  This was the final race of the Triple Crown series and Matt won the Championship for this series with all Wins...Won every race...Matt had lots of help with his "I Dig Pigs" Team and the Kenly Mafia and then Tom Pistone put Matt to work on his new car, to build a car able to over come 30 to 50hp with the super crates.

Note:  Why are Tracks allowing this to take place, plus the super crates also get a weight Break for running the super crate motors. Seems the track would make the super crates Claimers.  This means if you want to buy the crate motor after you are out run by it, you could do this for around $6500.00. It seems there are no rules with these motors or tech personal who can catch the modifications. It would be OK if they did not give a 50# to 75# weight break to run one of these crate motors.  Now you have a motor with 30 to 50 more hp with 50 to 75# lighter, this is crazy, why not keep late models with built motors and the crate motors in the Limited Late Models.  If you can not get enough Late Models to make a field, up your purses to $2000.00 + and they will come.  If not , make your Main race Limited Late and let everyone race on used tires and crate motors. NASCAR has made the rules, use  them.

Till the next race – God Bless and always be grateful!!

8/2/08 Southern National raceway--Twin 50'S--2nd first race!!!!Won 2nd Race

Matt and the Kenly Mafia went to battle with the super crates and had to split the win with a super crate. The Tomoe Warriors and the Kenly Bad Boys would qualify outside pole in one race and on the pole in the last race. Matt would finish 2nd in the first race.  In the second race the super crate would get too loose to win and Matt and his pirates would win the last race and put the "I Dig Pigs" in the winners circle for the 6th time this season.  This Team refuses to lose and always comes to win and have fun...Thanks to this Team

Till Matt and the "I Dig Pig" Team take on the next group of steel warriors.....Keep the pedal to the metal!!!

7/4/08-Tri-County Motor Speedway &  6/28/08 Orange County--WON!!>>>WON!!

Matt had never been to Orange County Speedway and did what other drivers find hard to do -  win on the first visit in the "Red Steel Warrior" known as the "I Dig Pig" machine.  When they dropped the final checkered it was Matt and the crew of the "I Dig Pig" that would get the 1st place check.

The Team  took the "Red Steel Warrior" owned by Jerry Moody along with Wendell,  Fred, Eric and David and helped Matt get this little piggy to the Checkered Flag market in the Tri-county Pepsi 200.  Matt was very patience and followed the leader till he knew he had enough tire left to seal the deal in the final 25 laps of the 200 lapper. Matt's plan put the "Red Steel Warrior" in Victory Lane  the second time out with the Ford motor  and won for the second time in two weeks in big races of 150 laps and 200 this week.  The Team of  the wild bunch of Pirates get the machine ready to dig each week...Thanks to this Team.

Till Matt and the "I Dig Pig" Team take on the next group of steel warriors.....Keep the pedal to the metal!!!

Till the next race – God Bless and always be grateful!!

@ Orange County Speedway...

Finished second after a early accident?? Read on....!!!!

Posted by: Lee Howell (N.C.S.H.P Sergeant) on July 20, 2008 at 4:47pm

I rode with some friends (yes I have friends) to the Orange County Speedway last night with nerves jumping like I had opening night jitters. The funny thing is on the way to the race I was sitting in the passenger seat wondering why he was going so slow! Well I found out later that he was in the drivers seat thinking that he would love to be going faster but out of respect he chose not to speed! Thanks scary Gary and Rebecca for the ride up. This was my first time actually attending a race in the past two years. I got to the track and learned a old friend worked there and I got see to her for the first time in probably 20 years. Kim it was good to see you! As you continue to read my post, you will figure out that I am a Matt McCall fan. Before last night I would have told you that because he drives the # 51 "I DIG PIGS" Ford that some of my friends own and actually their shop is across the road from my home. BUT after last night's race, I tell you I am a McCall fan because of the way he 1. Acts, 2. Drives, 3. Cares, and 4. Conducts himself while he is doing what he loves..... RACE! Last night there were only 10 cars in the LMSC class and after qualifying, McCall was to start 3rd.....NOT! The track decides to draw numbers in the top six and guess what McCall starts 6th because he was a previous winner. Anyway, this is a 150 lap race and when the green flag was thrown, off they go! Well since the back stretch scoreboard was not working, I think it may have been maybe lap 15 McCall was just riding around trying to get a feel and save tires. All of a sudden the # 17 of Mr. Puryear gets underneath going in turn 1 and the # 04 of Mr. Gray barrels in underneath both of them to make it 3 wide and guess what? McCall got spun out. The # 04 must have suffered damage also because after a few more laps he slowly crept by our pit and parked it a while. I am not and have never raced on a track but my question is, if you are running a 150 lap race...why do you try and win the race on lap 15? I could not figure it out! Well anyway McCall starts last after spinning and by lap 80 he has made his way back up to third. Now I not taking anything away from the winner ( the # 06 of Mr. Dease)( congrats Mr. Dease on your win. You were hooked up) but McCall made his way back up without driving like it was the last lap EVERY LAP. Well with about 20 laps to go he passed the # 1 car for second. Clean pass. He then set his sights on the 06 car for the win. I was way more nervous now than the ride up to the race track. I now was remembering why my nerves get tore up so bad. Well with 8 laps to go, someone said they saw some debris on the track and the yellow flew. NOT what McCall needed to see. Oh by the way I had a team headset on during this race so I could hear what was being said between McCall and his crew. McCall was being timed before the caution flew and was noted to be running faster times than the # 06 car on each lap. Well anyway McCall never accused or complained about the race. Even when he was spun I got frustrated but he did not. He said he was just going to settle down and dig until he got back up front. Well when they restarted the race it was a dog fight to the finish. On the last lap when they went in turn 1 the # 06 car got in too hard and got a little squirrelly. McCall could have barreled in their and probably pushed him out of the way and beat him out of turn 2 but did not. They drag raced down the back stretch and went into turn 3 and 4 almost side by side with McCall underneath. McCall could have tapped the 06 again but DID NOT! They crossed the start/finish line with the 06 winning by maybe a fender. What a race! BUT NOW IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAY. McCall got on the radio and thanked the crew for a great car and day at the races and said   and I quote " I could have won it boys but I do not want to win a race like that! Not knocking Terry out!" That my friends is what racing to me is all about. Matt McCall you asked me after the race did I enjoy myself and I answered you that I did but advised you that you make me nervous. Well now I am telling you that it is not you that makes me nervous but the other racers that drive like they are trying to win the race in the first 20 laps that make me nervous! Again congrats Mr. Dease on your your win but congrats to Matt McCall on being a true winner to the race fans. Until we meet again at an appointed place and time, take care and thanks for a great evening of racing! GOD BLESS,

5/24/08--Motor Mile--5th

The "I Dig Pigs" went to Motor Mile to race against the 35 best Late Models on the planet. It was a great practice but when the team met to discuss qualifying, the set-up did not go well and the Bad Boy Ford would start deep in the field  - 18th. After going over the notes the team  made better choices for the race and Matt was  driving the "I Dig Pigs" like an artist moving up so carefully.  In the raging process and with 40 to 50 caution laps, the red rocket would dig its way thru the field and finish in the 5th spot without a mark on the Red metal warrior.  The team of Jerry and Wendell and the wild bunch and awesome wrenches, Eric and Fred put the pig on a rail. All and all it was a great night since the "I Dig Pigs" was not up to market. But, next time the Red Rocket will be better prepared for the Motor Mile Late Models. There are no dogs in this field and if you come to Motor Mile, bring your "A" game.  The officials treated the racers like they were happy we showed up. Oh, by the way, for the teams who raced the first 4 races, the Track gave  them 18 gals of racing fuel. The fee to get in was only $5.00....That's right $5.00, there were at least 2500  in the stands. Hats off to Motor Mile for giving back and having a professional team.

Till Matt and the "I Dig Pigs" Team take on the next group of steel warriors.....Keep the pedal to the metal!!!

Till the next race – God Bless and always be grateful!!

4/12/08 Tri-County--Won

The "I Dig Pigs" was once again on a quest to be the best. Matt and the crew from Kenly,  Fred and Eric ,came to town to get the Bad Boy Ford ready to go under Matt's guidelines. Then once this little Piggy was ready to go to market, Wendell and Jerry would get there in time to inspect the Hot Rod and make sure the Ford was ready to go to battle with 23 of the best late models at Tri-County Speedway. The Lowes 100 was timed by hand since the clocks would not work as planned. This put the "I Dig Pigs" in the 3rd spot  with the field ready to take on the Kenly Mafia and how did that go? Not to good. From lap one Matt and the Red Rocket would set the pace and check out at will.  There were only 3 cautions to close -up the field and Matt and the Kenly Mafia would cut down the field and get the third win out of four starts in 2008. The "I Dig Pigs" will be in the shop getting a new motor, since the crate motor is too much for the tracks. The Kenly Speedway was the track that told Jerry to buy one and run at will, then after 2 wins, they added 100# for race weight to be at 3100#. Please be assured, it is was not  the motor as much as shocks and the handling package Matt put in the Red Rocket. Jerry, Wendel, Fred, Eric and David are busy deciding what and where they will run next.. On the road again, till the Kenly Mafia pulls the trigger with the Tomoe warrior.

Till Matt and the "I Dig Pigs" Team take on the next group of steel warriors.....Keep the pedal to the metal!!!

Till the next race – God Bless and always be grateful!!

3/16/08---Won

The "I Dig Pigs" Ford was  ready for the twin 50's as Matt and the Team of Pirates would take charge at Kenly. This race car was prepared and the "I Dig Pigs" Ford owned by Jerry Moody was almost perfect at the race Sunday after a Saturday rainout.  After taking the lead on lap 4, Matt would be in control for the first 50 and win and win Big.  Then in the second 50 lapper, the "I Dig Pigs" Ford would root his way to the front and take command the final 45 laps after a few re-starts and missing a few close calls. It was a race you dream about when everything goes great. As a racer, we see few races where there is no wrong and this was one of those races. But, it will not happen for anyone without the hard work of Mr. Moody's Team. This Team worked all winter and it was good to see everything come together and put up two wins in one day....Till Matt and the "I Dig Pigs" Team take on the next group of steel warriors.....Keep the pedal to the metal!!!

Till the next race – God Bless and always be grateful!!

12/01/07

Matt  took a little time off from racing to test for his 3rd Dan Black Belt with Hanshi Piddington and his fellow Black Belts of AKANA. Matt has studied Martial Arts since the young age of 3. The story is told that Matt's dad would have him kicking before he could stand on his own two legs, long before his 3rd birthday. Now a seasoned Black Belt ,he  tested his mental skills while breaking a sharp arrow with the soft part of his throat. " pushing past paradox"

Matt then performed the "Tomoe Warriors walk on sharp broken glass to learn to "Pay Attention". "Creating Conscious Moments"

Then this karate "Tomoe Warrior "pushed a 6 inch needle thru his hand to " Redefine what's possible when the Mind is Focused !!"

Till the next race – God Bless and always be Grateful!!
